Shocking news from the government shelter in Burgas, Bulgaria
The foundation "Friends of Animals - Burgas Bulgaria asks for help for dogs in public shelters in Burgas, Bulgaria to the finding that two other dogs of dirofilariasis - heartworm are sick.
The heartworm disease (dirofilariasis) is a parasitic disease of dogs, even the rare cats. It is difficult to treat and often fatal runs. The cause of the Filarienart Dirofilaria dirofilariasis is immitis. These parasites are obligate zweiwirtig. Part of the development cycle, from the larval stage 1-3 (microfilaria), runs in mosquitoes. So far, more than 70 mosquito species have been shown to be carriers, but not the native species in Central Europe. The mosquito transmits the Saugakt these microfilariae in the host.
In the subcutis the development is carried to the fourth larval stage These migrate through the muscles in blood vessels and develop within 3-4 months to adult heartworms (Makrofilarien). The adult heart worms are about 1 mm thick and 20-30 cm long and settle mainly in the right side of the heart, the pulmonary trunk and the proximal cardiac segments of the vena cava. About six months after infection, the females are again microfilariae (larvae 1) traveling with the blood in small blood vessels and will be included where appropriate by mosquitoes when Saugakt again.
The affected animals show the development of the mature worms, that is only about six months after infection, depending on the level of infestation reduced efficiency and tire easily. It develops right heart failure with congestion and enlargement of the right side of the heart (cor pulmonale) with shortness of breath, cough, and the formation of edema. As a result of heart failure may also develop liver and kidney failure.

4-6-2010: Voertransport in Bourgas aangekomen !!
Dankzij Edward kon er een transport mogelijk gemaakt worden.De hondjes in Bourgas hebben voor de volgende 6 weken
weer voldoende eten en verzorging.
26-5-2010 Voertransport naar Bourgas Aankomend weekend is het dan eindelijk zover. Het eerste transport naar Bourgas gaat van start. I.v.m. de hoge kosten, qua transport, blijft het moeilijk om regelmatig een voertransport te sturen.Via Edward, een bijzondere dierenliefhebber, hebben wij de gelegenheid 800 kilo hondevoer naar Bulgarije te transporteren.
8-4-2010 Paas offensief Miglena in Burgas
Miglena heeft afgelopen Paasweekend driftig haar organisatie gepromoot. Ze had een stand in het stadspark opgebouwd.
Dit bleef niet zonder aandacht. Gelukkig kent Burgas meerdere hondenliefhebbers en zoals u ziet ondersteunen zij de organisatie van Miglena van harte.
Ook de lokale Media had aandacht voor Miglena. Een dikke pluim voor het gehele team voor deze uitstekende presentatie.
30-1-10 Transport aangekomen in Sofia
Eindelijk is het transport aangekomen in Sofia. Alle donaties zijn bij Sonya in Sofia opgeslagen en zullen van daaruit verdeeld gaan worden. Miglena heeft haar donaties gisteren opgehaald. Miglena is, met een chauffeur, meer dan 800 km gereden om de donaties op te halen. Op dit moment is het in Bulgarije -15* en er ligt volop sneeuw.

Vandaag nieuwe fotos uit Bourgas gekregen. Miglena mocht het terrein op. Er zijn weer tientallen puppys en honden verdwenen.
Het voer is zo goed als op. Help ons astublieft met voer inzamelen. Alles is van harte welkom.

UPDATE LIZKA 22-12-2009
Lizka gaat het naar omstandigheden goed.
De infectie is gelukkig zo goed als uit behandeld.
Nu word er nog dringend een honderolstoel voor haar gezocht.
Lizka weegt 13. 3 kg en is 45 cm lang.
Ook willen wij kijken naar adoptiemogelijkheden voor Lizka in Nederland.
De vooruitzichten voor Lizka in Bulgarije zijn zeer slecht.
Een gezonde hond plaatsen is al moeilijk in Bulgarije, laat staan een gehandicapte hond.

Shelter Bourgas
Gisteren heeft BINX een vreselijk bericht ontvangen uit Bourgas. Miglena is gisteren tot de ontdekking gekomen dat meer dan de helft van de honden verdwenen zijn. Gisteren wilde zij de honden weer opzoeken en trof lege kennels aan. Ze hoorde ineens in de achtergrond honden kreunen maar kon helaas niks zien. De eigenaar kwam uit het gebouw gelopen en schreeuwde tegen Miglena dat zij het terrein moest verlaten. Met tranen in haar ogen verliet zij het terrein. Miglena heeft geprobeerd de burgermeester te bereiken maar hij weigert elk contact. De situatie gaat opnieuw bekeken worden. Aan de ingang van het asiel staat op het bord dat het een asiel is. Het word steeds meer duidelijk dat het om een dodingssation gaat. Euthanasie-middelen worden wel verstrekt maar doorverkocht.
Lizka heeft nu eindelijk een rollstoel! Met heel veel dank aan Irma en Miriam Abee van het bedrijf http://www.abee.eu , kon er een rolstoel gesponsord worden.
Wij bedanken iedereen die dit mogelijk heeft gemaakt. Lizka kan nu eindelijk haar rondjes lopen zoals een normale hond zonder pijn.
Lizka verblijft op dit moment in Bourgas bij Miglena thuis.De rolstoel gaat maandag 18-1-2010 mee met het transport.
